Social Support Services



In addition to your school counselor, there are support staff in your school who are there to provide the help you need. Depending on your school, these adults have different titles, including Resource Specialist, Social Service Liaison or SAP Assessor.  Your school counselor can help you find the right people to provide the support you need.

Below is a list of local community hotlines and agencies for students who need help with personal and/or family issues.

EMERGENCY HOTLINES

Mental Health Delegates: 215-685-6440

Trained delegates approve involuntary commitment applications, provides authorization for emergency services, dispatches mobile emergency teams for home visits and provide access to crisis residential centers.

Suicide and Crisis Intervention Hotline: 215-686-4420
Trained suicide/crisis intervention staff provide counseling, consultation and referral for people seeking assistance for acute psychiatric needs.

The Family Planning Council

The Council supports agencies that provide a range of reproductive health services, such as for birth control, STDs, and pregnancy. Philadelphia Department of Public Health
The Philadelphia Department of Public Health provides confidential family planning and gynecology services as well as assistance with pregnancy, birth, and child care. Click here or call 215-685-5260.

Community-Based Family Centers

Achieving Independence Center: One Stop Shopping for Foster Children Ages 17-22

The AI Center provides support and real life tools for Philadelphia dependent youth transitioning into adulthood. This one-of-a-kind center provides guidance, a multitude of resources, a chance to earn and save money, career counseling and life mentors. The Center has programs that assist you with education, life and job skills, employment, housing, and computer training just to name a few. Click here.

The Department of Behavioral Health & Mental Retardation Services
DBH/MRS provides information for individuals, family members & friends seeking services for people with mental retardation, mental illness, and/or substance abuse issues. Working in partnership with individuals, families, and communities, we provide an array of services to help people face the challenges of daily life and take positive steps toward recovery.
